PNUC members:
I am happy to be connected to each of your groups. By way of introduction for some and review for others let me explain who we are and what we do. The Community Relations Service (CRS) began in 1964 as an original part of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Our task is to provide assistance to communities to address discriminatory practices based on race, color, or national origin. We assist by providing mediation between parties, training and technical assistance to groups who seek to address such issues. Often by entering a situation as the U.S. Department of Justice, more people are willing to listen to options like mediation and or training.
We are more than happy to help any of your groups by providing services directly (free) or by partnering with your organization so that in the future you can provide the services yourself (also free). We can help with training for police in a number of areas. We can address school based racial tensions using a program we call the Student Problem Identification and Resolution of Issues Together (SPIRIT) program. We can help communities meet and dialogue about issues concerning race, color or national origin that may be impacting a municipality.
You can all get additional information at our web site www.usdoj.gov/crs
I look forward to the revitalization of the PNUC.
